Autograph letter signed from William Kirkby, senior customs officer, Carlisle, to Sir Christopher Musgrave, London [manuscript] 1685 December 14.

Kirkby indicates that Story and Graham, two customs officers, are neglecting their stations. Expresses concern about illegal trading of tanning leather and wine. He has communicated with Mr. Feilding & Mr. Nickolnson, stating his hope that future care will be taken to prevent "all reflections vpon the manadgement of our businesse." States that he is "mutch threatened about this Scotch ship" he seized at Whitehaven. Hopes Musgrave will remember his riding charges, since his salary will not defray his present charge.
